Jeff Bucknum celebrated his first oval entry for AJ Foyt and ABC Supply with a solid qualifying effort at the high banked 1.33 mile Nashville Superspeedway in preparation for the Firestone 200 tomorrow evening. Jeff will lineup on the 9th row after putting in a time of 198.450 mph, His time was just .5 seconds behind pole position which shows just how competitive the IndyCar field is, and how close the Foyt entry is to more even more success.

“I am pretty pleased with our effort today,” said Bucknum. “I am the only driver who has never visited this race track and we had very limited track time. To be as close as we are is a testament to Bruce Ashmore (Engineer) and the Foyt crew. We now know what we have to do to go faster but it will take some time. We are on a different program than the other teams. This is the first race of my six race agreement with AJ and he sets the goals. Our goal is to gain experience on this kind of oval and gain good solid racing miles.”

“This is not about one qualifying effort or indeed one race. This is about building for the remaining races this season, gaining experience and working our way forward. If AJ is happy, then so am I, and he seems happy. We are certainly in the ball park and look forward to a good competitive race tomorrow.”

The Firestone Indy 200 will be broadcast live Saturday night (July 15) on ESPN starting at 9 pm eastern time. Timing and Scoring is available at www.indycar.com.
