Jeff Bucknum will be on the road to Texas this weekend, not to be an entrant, but rather to continue the business of getting back into an IndyCar for races in 2006. Several meetings are scheduled with teams and with leaders of the IRL.

“I came away from Indy with a renewed desire to compete in IndyCar events and to get ready for the Indy 500 next year and beyond,” stated Jeff. “It is exciting for me to face this challenge. To have an opportunity to compete against the best drivers at the greatest racetrack in the world is a privilege and I left Indy with unfinished business. I am working on an effort that will allow me to race a few races at the end of this year, and then enter the full 2007 season next year.”

“It was tough watching the Watkins Glen race this weekend because I enjoyed racing there last year for AJ Foyt. I would have loved to have been in those battles. My days are now filled with bringing together plans to get me into a quality car with a quality team and compete for wins.”

“My experiences at Indy this year were both exhilarating and deeply disappointing. My approach now is to create a scenario that allows me to be aligned with a winning team so I can achieve the highest level of success possible. Each event gives me more knowledge on how to put an effort together that is capable of running up front. We are getting closer to that formula and we will demonstrate the results this year and next.”

“I want to thank my loyal supporters, Investment Properties of America, HASA and Spy Optics. I intend to make them proud.”

You can expect to see Jeff on the sidelines at the Bombardier 500 which will start Saturday evening an hour later this year (9 p.m. EDT on ESPN, IMS Radio Network affiliates, XM Satellite Channel 145 and www.indycar.com), making the second half a true night race. But don’t expect to see him on the sidelines for much longer.
