Jeff Bucknum accomplished another first day qualifying effort last Saturday for the 2006 Indy 500. As previously reported, he put together a solid four laps to average 221.461 to line up on the inside of row 8 for the 90th running of the ”Greatest Spectacle in Racing.”

Jeff posted 222 MPH laps in pre qualifying practice and was a bit disappointed at his result as the first qualifier. “This might sound strange to some but the effort was a little too easy, which means we were a little overstuck. I'm not really sure what else we could have done, because we trimmed it out as much as we think we could trim it out. I'm not sure if it was the heat or not, but the car was a little too comfortable.”

“But that is ok. Our program was to make the field solidly and we did. Lee Kunzman and the entire crew built this car from scratch and it is a good race car. It's good in traffic and around other cars. Come race day, it's going to be even better.”

Bucknum has been busy since qualifying. On Monday the entire field of competitors was flown on an IRL charter to New York City for a packed day of media events including a visit to the New York Stock Exchange, a photo op on the flight deck of the USS Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum and much more.

Jeff will continue his race preparation at Indy before hitting the track on Friday for the traditional “Carb Day” shakedown. Saturday will feature the public driver’s meeting followed by the “500 Festival Parade.

Sunday’s Indy 500 will be telecast on ABC with coverage beginning one hour before the 1 PM EDT green flag. Live timing and scoring will be available at www. Indyracing.com
